Biochimeric

Biochimeric is a visual exploration of hybridization, transformation, and identity, woven through the lens of memory. Spanning three decades, from 1987 to 2017.

The collection captures moments that, like memories themselves, blur and fade over time—only to reemerge in surreal and unexpected ways.

These resurfacing memories often reveal hidden emotions that were overlooked or misunderstood in the past, or are remembered entirely differently from how events truly unfolded.

Through digital manipulation and mixed media formats, Biochimeric transforms these fragments into something both familiar and fantastical.

Each image reflects how memory evolves—not as a static record, but as a living entity, shaped by time, context, and emotion.

The interplay of the real and the imagined mirrors the way we revisit our personal histories: with clarity that is sometimes sharp, sometimes distorted, yet always infused with deeper meaning.

This collection invites the viewer to reflect on the transient nature of life and the stories we tell ourselves.
It is both a celebration of transformation and a meditation on how the past continues to shape us in ways we may not fully understand.

At its core, Biochimeric challenges the traditional concept of identity as fixed or singular. Instead, it proposes that identity is fluid, shaped by our encounters and interpretations over time. By juxtaposing elements of the organic with the artificial, the work underscores the complexity of selfhood as a synthesis of experience, memory, and imagination.

The visual language of the collection draws heavily on the tension between opposites: chaos and order, reality and fantasy, permanence and transience.
This tension creates a dynamic interplay that mirrors the human experience of reconciling our past with our present. The layered textures and vibrant distortions are intentional, symbolizing the many layers that memory accrues as it is reshaped by time.

Central to the work is the idea that memory is not merely a passive repository of facts but an active agent in transformation. Each piece in the collection reflects a process of metamorphosis, where memory is not just recalled but reimagined, becoming something entirely new. This act of reimagining invites the viewer to consider how their own memories have been altered—intentionally or unconsciously—over the years.

The hybridized forms that populate the collection serve as metaphors for the fragmentation and recombination inherent in the human experience. Figures emerge partially recognizable yet altered, their features blending with organic shapes, surreal landscapes, and abstract elements. These hybrids symbolize the fluid nature of identity and the transformative power of memory.

In creating Biochimeric, I sought to incorporate multiple media—photography, digital painting, and collage—to emphasize the interplay between the tangible and the ephemeral. The blending of these formats mirrors the way memory itself is constructed from disparate pieces, some vivid and others hazy, yet all contributing to a larger narrative.

The collection is also deeply personal, drawing inspiration from moments of profound joy, sorrow, and introspection. Yet, it remains universal in its themes, resonating with the shared human experience of revisiting the past. By embracing the imperfections of memory and its capacity to evolve, Biochimeric becomes a celebration of the beauty found in impermanence and change.

Ultimately, the work invites viewers not just to look but to question, to reexamine their own stories and the role memory plays in shaping their identities. By confronting the gaps and distortions in our recollections, we open the door to deeper understanding—not just of who we were, but of who we are becoming.

In this way, Biochimeric is not just a reflection of the past but a journey toward transformation. It serves as a reminder that our memories, like our identities, are never final—they are chimeras, continuously evolving in response to the present moment. Through this lens, the collection becomes an ongoing dialogue between memory, imagination, and the self.
